When was Werner Enterprises founded?

Werner Enterprises was founded in 1956 by Clarence (C.L.) Werner at the age of 19 when he sold his car to purchase a 1956 Ford F-800 Big Job truck. C.L. became the Company’s first driver.

Werner is among the five largest truckload carriers in the United States, with a diversified portfolio of transportation services that includes dedicated; medium-to-long-haul, regional and expedited van; and temperature-controlled. The Werner Logistics portfolio includes North American truck brokerage, freight management, intermodal and final mile services.

Who are Werner’s customers?

Werner maintains a diversified customer base with no one customer exceeding 14% of total revenues. Approximately 71% of the freight transported or managed by Werner consists of retail merchandise, grocery products and consumer products. We focus on transporting consumer non-durable products that generally ship more consistently throughout the year and whose volumes are less variable when there is a cyclical downturn in the economy.

How many employees does Werner have?

As of December 31, 2022, we employed 10,249 drivers; 693 mechanics and maintenance associates for the trucking operation; 1,610 office associates for the trucking operation; and 1,748 associates for Werner Logistics, international, driving schools and other non-trucking operations. We also had 295 independent contractors who provide both a tractor and a driver or drivers. Most of our associates are based in the U.S., with about 1% based in Mexico and Canada. None of our U.S. or Canadian associates are represented by a collective bargaining unit, and we consider relations with our associates to be good.

What is Werner’s year end? When are quarterly financial results released?

Werner’s year end is December 31. Quarterly financial results for each of the first three quarters of the year are typically released in an earnings release approximately four to five weeks following the last day of the quarter. Quarterly financial results for the fourth quarter of the year are typically released approximately five weeks following year-end.
