Werner Enterprises (NASDAQ:WERN), a premier transportation and logistics
company, recognized Earth Day Tuesday, April 22, at its global
headquarters in Omaha, Neb. Steve Phillips, senior vice president of
Fleet Resources, shared with the audience an update about Werner’s most
recent sustainability progress and initiatives.
The event featured vehicles with alternative fuel engines, including a
Werner CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) truck and trailer. Representatives
from Johnstone Supply spoke to associates about home energy
conservation, while representatives from General Motors and a local
Chevy dealership displayed a hybrid vehicle and shared useful car care
tips. Experts from several Werner departments also discussed the
company’s latest green initiatives.

transportation industry, it is our responsibility to diligently
research, test and utilize the latest technologies to reduce our carbon
footprint and increase fuel efficiencies.”
Through Werner’s commitment to controlling excessive fuel consumption
and pollutants, it has conserved more than 100 million gallons of fuel
since 2007 and reduced its carbon footprint by more than 1 million tons.
Werner incorporates industry-leading sustainability efforts into its
business model, including installing diesel-fired heating systems to
reduce truck idle time, utilizing aerodynamic trucks, equipping trailers
with trailer skirts, using tire inflation systems and implementing the
newest diesel technology. Most recently, Werner announced last month it
would add 10 CNG trucks to its fleet.
