Werner Driver Selected for WIT Image Team

April 7, 2016

OMAHA, Neb.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Werner Enterprises (NASDAQ: WERN), a premier transportation and logistics provider, is pleased to announce that professional driver Felicia Berggren was selected to represent female drivers on the exclusive Women In Trucking (WIT) Image Team.

While females only account for approximately 6 percent of professional drivers in the trucking industry, Werner nearly doubles the national average with a female driver workforce of about 10 percent. Berggren joined WIT to support its mission of encouraging women’s employment in the industry. The WIT Image Team participates in ride-along events for legislators, regulators and industry leaders, bringing awareness to the challenges women face in the trucking industry.

“I want other women to know that we don’t have to fit some stereotype or be afraid of driving a big rig,” said Berggren. “It’s a great living and there’s so much to experience out on the road. I think that if we welcome the adventure, this career can take us to places we never imagined.”

Image Team applicants must be a member of WIT for one year and submit an application. The selection committee interviewed finalists about ways the industry could improve its appeal to women. This year, 13 women were selected.

Most recently, Berggren’s Operation Freedom 5 truck was recognized with a second place finish in the working bobtail category at the 27th annual PKY Truck Beauty Championship at the 2016 Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, Kentucky. Operation Freedom is Werner’s military-themed fleet that travels on regular freight routes in addition to being showcased at truck shows, recurring events and specific veteran ceremonies to bring awareness to Werner’s industry-leading military apprenticeship program.
