OMAHA, Neb.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Apr. 1, 2015--
Werner
Enterprises (NASDAQ: WERN), a premier transportation and logistics
provider, is proud to announce that both the company and one of its
associates were recently honored with two prestigious awards from the
Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR).
Werner was recognized with the Pro Patria Award, the highest level award
that may be bestowed by a state ESGR committee. Recipients demonstrate
support to Guard and Reserve employees through leadership and practices,
including adopting personnel policies to make it easier for employees to
participate in the National Guard and Reserves.
In addition, Andy King, associate director – West/Central and Canada,
was presented with a Patriot Award after being nominated by Kyle
Bonnstetter, Van Network customer service project manager and a member
of the Nebraska Reserve. This award recognizes individual supervisors
and reflects the efforts made to support members of the Guard or Reserve
through a wide range of measures including flexible schedules, time off
prior to and after deployment, caring for families and granting leaves
of absence if needed.
“This award is truly an honor and reflects our company’s commitment to
veterans, reservists and guardsmen,” King said. “Anything we can do as
supervisors to help ease their transition between military and civilian
roles is a small sacrifice compared to what these men and women provide
to our country.”
This is the second time Werner Enterprises has received the Pro Patria
Award, and King’s presentation marks the fifth time a member of the
Werner team has been recognized with the Patriot Award.
As a military friendly employer, Werner has hired more than 5,400
veterans in the last three years, surpassing the pledge it made in 2012
under the White House campaign Joining Forces to hire 1,000 veterans per
year for the next five years. Werner has pledged to hire 2,200 veterans
and 200 veteran spouses in 2015.
